Apartment Above Needful Things; Tuesday Late Morning

Harley had spent most of the weekend on the mainland. Not just Baltimore, either - she'd taken the kid out on a little road trip. Yanno, for life lessons! Most of them criminal, of course, but that was sort of how their mentorship worked, so someone else could handle the boring stuff. Anyway, they'd had fun!

So much of it, in fact, that Harley had only landed back on the island late on Monday evening. Technically probably Tuesday? Which meant that after she'd passed out and slept her fill, the day was already well on its way. She rolled groggily out of bed, shambled her way into the living room --

And groaned when she saw the glitter bomb still waiting on the coffee table, and not downstairs attached to the front door ready to explode on Frenchie if he showed up again this week. Whether he'd already shown up or not, Harley was not in a state to go set it up now.

She shuffled around some more, in search of her phone, which she found discarded on the kitchen counter. No calls, no messages apart from Cass informing her she'd ordered breakfast delivery on Harley's account. Harley looked at the phone for a long moment more anyway, tapping her thumb against the side of it in thought. Groggy, still sleepy, not yet caffeinated thought.

And pulled up a number she'd had for a while but never actually texted before.

(Successfully, anyway. There was that time on her birthday.)

Harley was maybe just trying to overwhelm herself by leaning into the physical. They'd been so good at that side from the beginning, and it was so easy to reach for when the other stuff felt weird and fragile and precarious.

(And wanted, and needed, and -- see why she was trying to overload her senses so she wouldn't think too much?)

She bit at his lips, then kissed him just as harshly as he had before.

Marc kissed her back, matching the intensity. He didn't need the physical in this second the way she seemed to. But the kicker was she seemed to, and he could understand that. Kind of a whole thing of being there and looking out for her and okay not lingering too much on the why he wanted to do either of those things. Just doing. Doing was workable.

He moved the hand on her back up, cupping the back of her head as he kissed her just so she could feel that closeness, that connection. Him being there.

It was a bit of mirroring, to boot, since Harley's own hand remained against the back of his head. Which just made it even more of a connection.

He was there.

Her other hand squeezed his hand harder again.

Marc squeezed back. He moved his hand enough to brush his thumb against Harley's inner wrist, right over the pulse point. Another reminder that they were connected.

A shiver ran along Harley's spine in response.

Her hand tilted, twisted, like she was trying to get more of that, or just again.

Marc repeated the gesture, this time adding a brush of his fingernail in as well. Not a scratch, just a harder sensation.

It was the right kind of harder in this moment. Harley bit at his lip and made another one of her little noises.

The right kind of needy, too.

Marc drew their hands closer to their chests. Not in between, there wasn't room enough to do that with as close as they were. But close. Heart height but that was just how arms bent. The proximity was what mattered. Pulling Harley in as much as possible to increase that sense of connection as he rubbed her wrist.

Harley was shifting on his lap, too, trying to find a way to be there with as little space in between as humanly possible. While clothed, anyway.

Her fingertips rubbed against the back of his hand whichever way they were able to, and she was pouring a lot of fervor into the kiss.

Marc was all for the kissing. Though he did break it just enough to mumur "I gotcha" before diving back in.

Felt like the right thing to say.

No! Extremely rude! Because it made Harley feel things!

It always made her feel things.

And yet her noise of protest was on the vague and quiet side, and brought on no other actions to support it. Just -- more.

Marc figured the protest was more about the pause. Which he wasn't gonna say wasn't valid. So he kissed her deeper to make up for it, trying to see if he could take her breath away.

Was it still considered taking if Harley was practically giving it away to him? He could have it, her breath. He could have a lot of things.

Not that she didn't continue to also give as good as she got, too.

The giving as good as she got was, well, good. Passivity wasn't something Marc had ever been into. And right now there was a kind of conversation going on even without words. A question and answer about how alone they were - or weren't - in this. So Harley speaking up in her own way calmed something inside of Marc's chest. It was an echo back he needed to hear.

Of course for Marc calm wasn't necessarily the opposite of intense. But it was motivation to continue in its own way as he kissed her near bruising.

He wasn't alone.

Harley wasn't, either.

Harley's hand left the back of his head, but only so it could find his at the back of hers, and cover it, at least for the moment. Like she just needed to be touching both his hands with hers, right now.

Marc eased his hold, pressing up into her touch so that it was clear if she wanted to move his hand somewhere she could.

So Harley took his hand, and squeezed it, and brought their hands down to echo what their other set of joined hands was doing on the other side. Connection.

She laced her fingers with his on this side, too.

Marc sort of smiled against Harley's mouth when she did that. Not a huge grin, but something that showed he got what she was doing and was good with it - in case him going along with it didn't make that clear.

He laced his fingers back, his thumb rubbing against hers.

Harley didn't smile, but she sighed. It sounded dreamy.

Happy? Happy.

Which was not as uncomplicated as it seemed in the moment.

Okay, the sigh got more of a smile out of him.

What? It was cute.

Harley felt it on his lips. She was also very deliberate about kissing his smile - though whether that intent was at all discernible from all the other kissing to anyone but her was debatable.

His smiles were getting to be kind of important to her, was all.

It was maybe just different enough to get more of a smile out of him. Or maybe Marc was smiling for some other reason. As he was so known to do.

Absolutely known for smiling at many things as he was!

Whatever the cause, Harley noticed. Harley also licked one corner of the smile because why not? Worked to draw attention to it, like a tease with no words.

Marc moved to nip back, but it was a deliberate feint. More... the word couldn't possibly be playful but not serious, certainly.

Harley certainly snickered like it was playful! That meant it counted!

When she went ahead and made a similar move, it was absolutely playful.
