Apartment Above Needful Things; Tuesday Late Morning

Harley had spent most of the weekend on the mainland. Not just Baltimore, either - she'd taken the kid out on a little road trip. Yanno, for life lessons! Most of them criminal, of course, but that was sort of how their mentorship worked, so someone else could handle the boring stuff. Anyway, they'd had fun!

So much of it, in fact, that Harley had only landed back on the island late on Monday evening. Technically probably Tuesday? Which meant that after she'd passed out and slept her fill, the day was already well on its way. She rolled groggily out of bed, shambled her way into the living room --

And groaned when she saw the glitter bomb still waiting on the coffee table, and not downstairs attached to the front door ready to explode on Frenchie if he showed up again this week. Whether he'd already shown up or not, Harley was not in a state to go set it up now.

She shuffled around some more, in search of her phone, which she found discarded on the kitchen counter. No calls, no messages apart from Cass informing her she'd ordered breakfast delivery on Harley's account. Harley looked at the phone for a long moment more anyway, tapping her thumb against the side of it in thought. Groggy, still sleepy, not yet caffeinated thought.

And pulled up a number she'd had for a while but never actually texted before.

(Successfully, anyway. There was that time on her birthday.)

You awake yet?

"I didn't even take you lying down, this time!"

Okay, maybe that joke was a little predictable? But it amused Harley, so whatever! And anyway, he'd laughed, so she was already looking at him with like 10% more something dopey in her smile, too.

"So what's this reaction you're so sure I'll have?"

The joke amused Marc too, if the soft snort was any indication.

"Indignant," Marc said. And this time he did use his free hand to gesture to... her everything at the moment.

"Ya can't know that!" Harley claimed. A little indignantly, sure. "And even if you did, that just means you have to come up with something to sweeten the deal! Yanno, make the shushing more enticing."

"I don't wanna shush you," Marc pointed out. He looked thoughtful. "Occasionally have your mouth do other stuff but that's different."

"Other stuff?" Harley replied innocently.

So innocently. Honest. Look at how she was batting her lashes! Would a non-innocent person who knew exactly what he was talking about do that?

"Eating," Marc replied. Also innocently. Not as good at pretending it as she was though.

Harley snorted, but mostly managed to keep something of a hold on her coy act all the same. "You want me to eat? Real food? Aww, that's so nice of ya!"

Take that, Marc.

"I brought you a burrito," Marc pointed out.

"'Cause I asked you to," Harley retorted.

"Could've said no," Marc replied.

"You also didn't say yes, you just bought and brought the burrito! Case closed!"

That was how that worked, right? She just said it and that made it so?

Marc laughed again. What? He'd already mentioned she had moments of being cute.

"What am I being accused of again?"

"I don't remember," Harley admitted sunnily. "But I'm sure it was a terrible offense."

"Wouldn't be my first," Marc said. "But hey, if next time you don't want me to bring breakfast..."

Ignore the assumption of next time. And that he'd bring breakfast without being asked.

"Then I'll just skip to havin' you instead."

Easy!

"Dunno if I buy you waking up in the morning if you don't have to," Marc said.

Ignore how she'd done that today and that's why he was there. He was pulling her pigtails, so to speak.

Harley was ignoring no such thing! In fact, Harley was giving him a confused look.

"Isn't that sorta what already happened today?"

Then she reconsidered. Slightly.

"Exactly like what happened today."

"Again," Marc amended. With a massive, oh so put upon rolling of his eyes. So put upon Truly.

"So I used up my one wakeup and now ya don't see it happening no more?"

Okay, she was back to teasing, although she was trying to keep her face at least somewhat serious.

"Exactly," Marc replied in kind. "You only had one in you."

And the obnoxious smirk broke through. "Only needed the one."

Dirty?

Absolutely.

Had he set that up just for her? Maybe.

"Good thing. All I'm working with."

"Trust me, you make the most of it," Harley replied, complete with a ridiculously wistful sigh. Hey, it was no secret the sex worked for her! "Nice job lettin' me stay on top, too!"

Marc shrugged that off. "You've got good balance."

Yep, still not fully getting it.

And Harley was tricksy enough that she was actually talking about the physical, now. Mostly, anyway.

"Hasn't always stopped you from flipping me back onto my back before."
