Apartment Above Needful Things; Tuesday Late Morning

Harley had spent most of the weekend on the mainland. Not just Baltimore, either - she'd taken the kid out on a little road trip. Yanno, for life lessons! Most of them criminal, of course, but that was sort of how their mentorship worked, so someone else could handle the boring stuff. Anyway, they'd had fun!

So much of it, in fact, that Harley had only landed back on the island late on Monday evening. Technically probably Tuesday? Which meant that after she'd passed out and slept her fill, the day was already well on its way. She rolled groggily out of bed, shambled her way into the living room --

And groaned when she saw the glitter bomb still waiting on the coffee table, and not downstairs attached to the front door ready to explode on Frenchie if he showed up again this week. Whether he'd already shown up or not, Harley was not in a state to go set it up now.

She shuffled around some more, in search of her phone, which she found discarded on the kitchen counter. No calls, no messages apart from Cass informing her she'd ordered breakfast delivery on Harley's account. Harley looked at the phone for a long moment more anyway, tapping her thumb against the side of it in thought. Groggy, still sleepy, not yet caffeinated thought.

And pulled up a number she'd had for a while but never actually texted before.

(Successfully, anyway. There was that time on her birthday.)

You awake yet?

"You do it to me," Marc said. He scruffed her hair again, then ran his fingers through to smooth it. "Getting even."

Harley's head moved into it like she was a cat trying to headbutt his hand.

"Oh, we're doin' hair for hair now?"

"I am," Marc replied. He kept running his fingers through since she seemed to like it. "Dunno what you're doing."

"Basking."

Well, it sure looked like she was!

"Can't say I'm minding the view," Marc told her. Still mainly looking at her face though.

"And you're not even looking at the rack!" Harley pointed out, helpfully. "Just as well, though. This is a comfort bra, not a 'show off the lovely ladies' bra."

"You look hot anyway," Marc said. He moved one hand forward to brush her cheek. "I like seeing you happy. Sue me."

"Aw, the legal system really doesn't like me enough for me to do that."

Also ignore how she leaned into that one. Like she was happy to be happy.

Marc cupped her cheek, rubbing it with his thumb. "Guess nothing's stopping me from enjoying it then."

Ignore how these were not normally things he said. The word enjoy, for instance.

There wasn't anyone to hear it here except Harley, and she was no snitch.

She was also busy nuzzling his hand, or at least attempting to. "Well, I'm not gonna," she said. "Even if it's most rudely interfering with my ruse to lure ya into my bed!"

There was no ruse.

"If saying you wanna ride me into the mattress is subtle what's the obvious version?" Marc asked. Because yeah, not even for him was it a ruse.

"Dragging you into the bedroom and shovin' ya onto the bed?"

Well, since he'd asked.

"Guess I'll have to watch out for that one," Marc said, giving her a grin.

"There'll be a warning," Harley replied, her own hand moving up now, just for a single fingertip to trace the outline of his grin. "'Cause I'll have to get off ya, first."

"Assuming your legs haven't fallen asleep," Marc replied. He made as though to bite at her finger but it was just show.

Harley responded by giving a little flick to the air right in front of his nose, not actually touching.

"Well in that case," she said, "the warning would be me falling onto the floor."

"I'd catch ya," Marc said, without even thinking about it. Or doubting that he would.

"Yeah, you would," Harley replied, without thinking twice about it. Because she believed him without thinking twice about it. "Almost makes me wanna fall."

"When it gets icy around here I'll keep an eye out," Marc told her.

Shut up about how that meant months from now.

Oh, Harley shut up about it for sure. She just also happened to beam at him for it in a not particularly concealed manner.

"Lookin' forward to it," she teased. Sort of?

"I'm good at snowball fights," he told her.

Promise? Warning? Little of both?

Whereas Harley's response was more of a pure playground taunt, delivered with a big smirk:

"You think you're good at snowball fights."

Was Marc now thinking about asking Midnight to make some snow in the All Purpose Room? Maybe.

"Challenge accepted," Marc said. "Sorry in advance for kicking your ass."

"Lotsa things ya could be doin' with my ass," Harley replied, "but that won't be one of them."

Did she have anything to back up any of these claims? Remained to be seen!

Marc quirked an eyebrow at her. "Not saying I won't keep you warm after."
