Harley had spent most of the weekend on the mainland. Not just Baltimore, either - she'd taken the kid out on a little road trip. Yanno, for life lessons! Most of them criminal, of course, but that was sort of how their mentorship worked, so someone else could handle the boring stuff. Anyway, they'd had fun!

So much of it, in fact, that Harley had only landed back on the island late on Monday evening. Technically probably Tuesday? Which meant that after she'd passed out and slept her fill, the day was already well on its way. She rolled groggily out of bed, shambled her way into the living room --

And groaned when she saw the glitter bomb still waiting on the coffee table, and not downstairs attached to the front door ready to explode on Frenchie if he showed up again this week. Whether he'd already shown up or not, Harley was not in a state to go set it up now.

She shuffled around some more, in search of her phone, which she found discarded on the kitchen counter. No calls, no messages apart from Cass informing her she'd ordered breakfast delivery on Harley's account. Harley looked at the phone for a long moment more anyway, tapping her thumb against the side of it in thought. Groggy, still sleepy, not yet caffeinated thought.

And pulled up a number she'd had for a while but never actually texted before.

(Successfully, anyway. There was that time on her birthday.)

Harley hadn't thought much about the weird, sharp moment of missing him she'd experienced while talking to Steven after it had happened. But it came back to her now - or maybe like a reverse image of a sort? Because he was there, in every possible meaning and facet of the word.

There was a weird... fullness in her chest.

"I like you too," came out with a faint strained note in it.

Marc felt a something when she said that. Also in the chest region. He didn't know about the rest of it, but he got there was a different meaning there. An implication.

No words seemed like the way to go right now. He leaned up to kiss her. Nothing intense. Brush of his mouth against hers. Silently saying, again, he was there.

Oh thank fuck. Harley really didn't know what she was really saying, and so no words was an incredibly attractive prospect. Even if it was light and nothing intense, it was still a respite and a distraction and a moment where she couldn't say anything further.

(Okay, she could have. But it was a great excuse not to!)

Marc slipped the hand on her hip around her back so he could hold her closer. He kept kissing. Little bit harder but not deeper. Still more about saying he was there than anything heated.

It was about the only thing keeping Harley from diving headfirst into pushing for something more heated, just because there was a sudden jittery energy inside her. As it was, she just leaned into the kiss a little more, which went great with his efforts at keeping her closer.

Her free hand settled on his shoulder - for about a second, before finding his cheek instead.

Something about her hand on his cheek made Marc feel... more. Not anything that he could articulate. But then again they weren't talking right now, so that was fine.

So he kissed her harder. Trying to show that more without saying it.

Harley didn't quite gasp, physically speaking. But there was something like that in the half a second between him kicking the kiss up another notch, and her lips parting further. Like an invitation.

At some point she might realize how tightly her other hand was holding on to his.

Marc accepted that invitation, making the kiss deeper and harder. He held her hand too. Not painful or clinging. All of it working to convey the same message: I'm here.

Harley's hand slipped back from his cheek, to the back of his head, cradling there like she was keeping him from going away - even when the message was so clear it was practically ringing in her ears.

Or maybe that was just the rush of blood in her veins?

Either way: she was kissing him back just as hard, just as deep, leaning in further, as much as she possibly could.

Marc sighed in a way that sounded like agreement. His hand on her back gripped her closer. His hand in hers held tighter. He kissed her harder. In a way that could be intense enough to be painful but not in a way to hurt. Just... needing to get the message across.

Harley had never had much of an issue with feeling like she was close to bruising, least of all when it came to something that made her feel wanted.

She reflected every last bit back to him, with a force that might threaten to tip the chair if they got careless.

Testing structural integrity did seem to be a theme with them. Marc was mainly focused on giving back as he got. He added in some light bites to Harley's lips, knowing that she liked those too.

Harley's reaction was an immediate, helplessly excitable noise, and her nails pressing into his scalp, so...

Yes. Yes, she did like that.

That got a huff like a laugh out of Marc. Not mocking. Appreciative of the enthusiasm. He repeated the gesture, doing a sharper nip this time.

This time, the noise actually was a gasp. Barely past her lips before Harley tried to repay the favor on his lip, of course.

That got a hum of appreciation. Marc licked and sucked at her mouth to soothe any ache that was there from the biting.

Harley's breath was harsh against his lips, and the whimpery sound she made was somewhere low in her throat.

It sounded every bit like enjoyment, though. Give or take a little bit of something needy thrown in for good measure.

Needy could be all right if it was the right kind of needy. Marc went back to kissing her, a little heat mixing in with it now.

It was Harley's kind of needy: the byproduct of a surge of want she almost didn't know what to do with.

The added heat gave it an outlet, however. She crashed right back into the kiss with some of her own.

Marc welcomed that heat gladly. It wasn't that he was trying to get away from the rest of it. More it was in addition to. Another way he was there. Something where the physical wasn't just physical.

Not that the physical was bad, mind you.

Harley was maybe just trying to overwhelm herself by leaning into the physical. They'd been so good at that side from the beginning, and it was so easy to reach for when the other stuff felt weird and fragile and precarious.

(And wanted, and needed, and -- see why she was trying to overload her senses so she wouldn't think too much?)

She bit at his lips, then kissed him just as harshly as he had before.

Marc kissed her back, matching the intensity. He didn't need the physical in this second the way she seemed to. But the kicker was she seemed to, and he could understand that. Kind of a whole thing of being there and looking out for her and okay not lingering too much on the why he wanted to do either of those things. Just doing. Doing was workable.

He moved the hand on her back up, cupping the back of her head as he kissed her just so she could feel that closeness, that connection. Him being there.

It was a bit of mirroring, to boot, since Harley's own hand remained against the back of his head. Which just made it even more of a connection.

He was there.

Her other hand squeezed his hand harder again.

Marc squeezed back. He moved his hand enough to brush his thumb against Harley's inner wrist, right over the pulse point. Another reminder that they were connected.

A shiver ran along Harley's spine in response.

Her hand tilted, twisted, like she was trying to get more of that, or just again.
