You asked Harley, it was a pretty good Sunday, so far.

She'd started out her day with no plan, and yet by happy accident (and it was definitely an accident, and not someone somewhere making room in a shared schedule to facilitate things, or anything deliberate on the part of anyone directly involved!) she'd run into Marc, and that had sparked a simple and easy plan after all: to drive him to the mainland for dinner, at a restaurant she'd overheard someone talking about on one of her off-island jaunts earlier in the week. It was supposed to be a family-run, no-nonsense little Italian place, and exactly the sort of thing Harley was in the mood for, especially right now with the company she had.

So life was indeed pretty good!

And Harley's mood wasn't soured even by finding out there was actually no parking available right by the restaurant. After some searching, she'd managed to find a spot some blocks away - which was to say, she'd sniped it from right under someone's nose with a truly reckless move. Which had led to some blaring horns from other cars. Which was all good in Harley's book! She had more important things to be thinking about, anyway!

"And the tiramisu's supposed to be amazing," she was saying, as they got out of the car. "Like, 'someone's 97-year-old tiny little Italian grandma made it' kind of amazing. D'you think they'd let me order that for an app and not just dessert?"

"I strike you as looking for stuff to complain about?" Marc asked.

He was only self aware sometimes.

"Not looking for," Harley replied, much too readily, and much too amused, "but finding, for sure!"

"Yeah, yeah, yeah, shaddup," Marc said, clearly not meaning any of it so much as admitting he didn't have a good counter argument.

Harley just snickered again, and smirked like she'd won.

Since she had!

"I'm sorry, are ya finding your bathtime a little too vexing?"

Marc turned his head as much as he could to try to look at her. "You. You are vexing."

Funny how the "too" had been dropped off in that declaration.

Harley could helpfully lean the other way a little, because of course she didn't want to rob him of the chance to see how she was smirking, all smug and happy.

"Oh, am I now?" she asked. "I don't think there's anything you can do about it, either!"

Marc appreciated that chance, if the smile on his face was any indication.

"I know you're a force of nature, Doc. Believe me."

Weird thing, the way his smile seemed to soften Harley's smirk more into one, too.

Very weird.

"What am I, a strong gust of wind, now? A summer storm?"

"Hurricane," Marc replied. "It's got an h in it too."

"Oooooh," Harley replied, her lips turning into a little 'o' for it. "Oh, I like that, good choice! And ya know how to spell at least some of my name, too!"

Marc looked at her curiously. "That was in doubt?"

Harley snorted, and gently flicked a little bit of water and bubbles up his chest. "A joke, sweetie, promise."

"I know I didn't go to college like some people..."

Marc wasn't actually upset. Just teasing.

"I forgive ya," Harley replied, unrepentant. "You're allowed to miss things."

"Don't need it anyway," Marc said. He rubbed the hand he was still holding on to. "I got you."

"You do," Harley replied, much too easily considering the softer tilt of her smile. But as long as she couldn't see it, it was fine. "And right now what I care about is just that you feel good."

Marc had maybe said the words with the intent of purely joking. But when they were out of his mouth he was aware they had other meaning. So when Harley replied... yeah. Nobody was looking, least of all either of them. It was fine.

Same for the concept of somebody not demanding anything of Marc, just being there. Saying... what Harley had said.

Nope. Not looking at the feeling that created in his chest. In the moment. The moment was good.

"Nice job so far," Marc told her. Kind of quiet, but mainly because it was for her alone to hear. "Thanks."

Harley smiled a little bigger, like that 'nice job' had weight, and meaning, and so also an effect on her.

And then, abruptly: "Aww, you know what the one downside to this position is?"

"I'm only picking one?" Marc asked.

Harley blinked, then chuckled a little.

"Well, I was thinking of a specific one, but if ya got a list of grievances..."

"Ladies first," Marc said. He was grinning though, so the grievances were not so grave.

"Awful hard to kiss like this."

A sacrifice she was clearly more than willing and happy to make, but still a grievance!

Marc tilted his head as much as he could to look at her. "You noticed that too, huh?"

"Well, it gets kinda glaringly obvious once you think about wantin' to do it."

And yes, this meant she'd suddenly thought about it just half a minute ago. No reason.

"Great," Marc said, oh so serious in how put upon he was. "Now I'm thinking about it."

As though he hadn't been already.
