Somewhere on the Mainland; Sunday Early Evening

You asked Harley, it was a pretty good Sunday, so far.

She'd started out her day with no plan, and yet by happy accident (and it was definitely an accident, and not someone somewhere making room in a shared schedule to facilitate things, or anything deliberate on the part of anyone directly involved!) she'd run into Marc, and that had sparked a simple and easy plan after all: to drive him to the mainland for dinner, at a restaurant she'd overheard someone talking about on one of her off-island jaunts earlier in the week. It was supposed to be a family-run, no-nonsense little Italian place, and exactly the sort of thing Harley was in the mood for, especially right now with the company she had.

So life was indeed pretty good!

And Harley's mood wasn't soured even by finding out there was actually no parking available right by the restaurant. After some searching, she'd managed to find a spot some blocks away - which was to say, she'd sniped it from right under someone's nose with a truly reckless move. Which had led to some blaring horns from other cars. Which was all good in Harley's book! She had more important things to be thinking about, anyway!

"And the tiramisu's supposed to be amazing," she was saying, as they got out of the car. "Like, 'someone's 97-year-old tiny little Italian grandma made it' kind of amazing. D'you think they'd let me order that for an app and not just dessert?"

Under the watchful gaze of the taxidermy beaver in a tutu, stationed on the kitchen counter, of course!

Miraculously enough, there were some clean plates and silverware. Not necessarily in the expected places, but they were there and not that hard to find since the kitchen area was small to begin with.

And about fifteen or so minutes after they'd taken off, the lady and her hyena could be heard coming back up the stairs.

"Better be you and not somebody else with a huge pet," Marc said.

Kidding. He knew her footsteps by now.

"It's us!" Harley called, right before they actually entered the apartment. "And here's proof!"

Bruce, of course, immediately beelined to his as of yet empty bowl, expectantly.

Marc leaned against the counter so he could try to be out of the way. "Food should be here soon."

"Great!"

And yes, he was trying to be out of the way, but when Harley made her way over to the counter, she just happened to lean up and press a quick kiss on his cheek before picking up the giant bag of dog food so that she could give Bruce his breakfast. Perfectly natural sequence of events, at least from where she was standing!

Or moving, as the case may have been.

Perfectly natural! Like Marc giving her ass a quick squeeze before she was out of reach.

At which Harley made sure to give a big gasp that sounded an awful lot like she was almost laughing instead.

"Oh, frisky!"

"Don't know what you're talking about," Marc told her.

Yeah, see how fast the gasp face turned to snickering? "Oh, must've been some kinda ghostly hand, then, got it."

She gave Bruce a few scritches, then poured food into his bowl.

"It's a weird island," Marc said. "Stranger things have happened."

Casual breakfasts, for example.

"Well, if I've got a freeloading, handsy ghost living in my house," Harley replied, because this was the next logical thought, "I might have to start setting some ground rules around here!"

"You're assuming freeloading," Marc pointed out.

"What else should I assume?" Harley asked, heaving the bag back onto the counter. "It feels like a safe bet!"

"Maybe it's working the store while you're up here," Marc said.

"And where does grabbing my perky behind fit into in all of that?"

"Not like he can get paid in cash," Marc replied.

Harley leaned against the counter with a thoughtful look. Ish, anyway.

"Yanno, I think I'd like it better if it was a ghost that understood consent."

"Could always try kicking it in the balls," Marc said. "They got an exorcism for that?"

"I dunno, that sounds like something that would get ignored 'cause of sexism."

She was now trying to picture it anyway, yes.

"When have you let that stop you?" Marc asked.

"What, you think I perform exorcisms?" Harley retorted. "That I wouldn't need to get a professional for that?"

You know, since her home so clearly screamed 'I get professionals to handle things for me' and all.

"Could if you wanted to," Marc said.

He had no idea what was involved with an exorcism.

Neither did Harley, but she did know this:

"Well, I don't."

"Maybe it'll get the hint and leave anyway," Marc said. He started bringing plates and everything over to the table for something to do.

And Harley gave his ass a pat before he was out of reach.
