Causeway Parking Lot to the Mainland; Later Tuesday Afternoon

It might not have ultimately been too much of a surprise which car in the parking lot was Harley's current ride. At least if you happened to know the Chevy Impala was Dean's provided it was even present on Tuesday. The funky 1970s green Chevy Chevelle sedan (four doors, see what she'd said about the back seat?) was of course Harley's: a classic look, but not so flashy as to attract too much attention and immediately get her in trouble as soon as she'd grabbed it from where the very unfortunate previous owner had left it.

Although the main hint that it was hers was still probably that she'd parked her butt on the hood of the thing as she waited for Marc to get there.

Call it a freebie.

"It is often the quickest way for a gal to look after herself," Harley said, in what was obviously not at all the biased view of a very readily violent person! "But I'll accept other ways too."

"Not afraid to stand up for herself," Marc said. "Not a shrinking violet either."

Harley snorted. "It takes so much effort to blend into the background."

Maybe some day she'd even tell him how she knew that!

"I feel like that one depends on personality," Marc said, looking right at her. "I can manage it if I need."

"Yeah, 'cause you want to do it sometimes, I bet," Harley replied, with a little lean. "At least more'n me."

"It's sometimes my style," Marc said. "Depends on - what'd you say? Context."

"And it's never mine."

No surprise there.

Or in the way her attention was suddenly snatched elsewhere. "Ooh, the mains are coming!" she enthused. And sure enough, their waitress came by to drop off their food, prompting some effusive thanks from Harley.

Marc did another nod of thanks to the waitress. Then he very much waited until she was gone before asking Harley, "Even if you're robbing a place?"

Marc was going out on a limb and guessing Harley sometimes robbed places herself instead of only having associates who did it for her.

It took a little bit of effort for Harley to pry her attention away from the what appeared to be an attempt to inhale the mac and cheese with just her eyes. (Look, it was just so cheesy!)

"I guess if I have to," she replied, but her tone made it clear it wasn't her first, second or even third choice. "But it's not usually a fun robbery if there's blending in involved."

"What kind of stuff would you steal?" Marc asked, now curious. He double checked his sandwich was as he asked - no offense to the diner, he just knew mayo instead of mustard could be a muscle memory thing - before taking a bite.

"Whatever needs stealin'," Harley replied, with a shrug. She'd spent a good while operating under someone else's plan, of course, and that still colored some of her thinking. "But I do like a good diamond heist!"

And yes, here was the first bite from her plate, too.

"Because of the theme?" Marc asked, indicating the arm with the diamond tattoos.

"Hm?"

Yeah, she had to actually follow the gesture to catch what he was referring to. Which probably spoiled what the answer was going to be! Somewhat.

"No, just 'cause diamonds is diamonds." A beat. "Though it is nice how it all thematically falls together, huh?"

Hey, just because Marc's didn't happen on purpose didn't mean he couldn't appreciate branding.

"Guess so," Marc said. And here he sounded like he had experience with diamond acquiring. "Good for a rainy day too."

"Diamonds never go out of style or lose their value," Harley agreed, around a forkful of food. Manners, schmanners. "Actual diamonds, I mean. Harlequin diamonds? Eh."

Tiny shrug at the end there.

"What's a harlequin diamond?" Marc asked. He was stuck on the actual gem, so he figured she meant something like how the brown ones were called chocolate.

Also don't mind him as he turned his plate so the fries were in easy reach if Harley wanted to snag some. Clearly he was just keeping the sandwich close because that's what he was eating right now.

Well, that made for a two-fer, for Harley's hand.

First, tapping at the forearm with the red and black diamond pattern - "These ones, yanno? Harlequin diamonds?" - and second, snatching some fries right after.

"Got it. Thought you meant - " Marc made a dismissive gesture with his hand. "Sometimes shit back home has fancy names."

Everyone now take a moment to wonder what a Harlequin Stone would do in the Infinity Gauntlet.

"You think you've lost value though?" he asked. "Or just the tattoo?"

"Oh, us harlequins gotta make our own value since no one else sure as shit is gonna give it to us," Harley replied, with just a little bit of a drawl. "But that does make it tricky, 'cause you can't rely on outside validation comin' in, like a real diamond can."

"Diamonds are only worth what you can get someone to pay for them," Marc pointed out. "They can't pick up and move somewhere else if the problem is they're not being appreciated for what they are."

"Yeah but they're rocks, they don't care."

It was Marc and not Steven. Guessing was the best he could manage here.

"About my worth? Yeah."

Not that anyone would have been able to tell just a couple of years back.

"You think you're more or less now?" Marc asked.

That actually made Harley stop and think for a second.

"Less in some ways," she said, after said second, earnestly, "more in others. So I dunno what that evens out to?"
