Causeway Parking Lot to the Mainland; Later Tuesday Afternoon

It might not have ultimately been too much of a surprise which car in the parking lot was Harley's current ride. At least if you happened to know the Chevy Impala was Dean's provided it was even present on Tuesday. The funky 1970s green Chevy Chevelle sedan (four doors, see what she'd said about the back seat?) was of course Harley's: a classic look, but not so flashy as to attract too much attention and immediately get her in trouble as soon as she'd grabbed it from where the very unfortunate previous owner had left it.

Although the main hint that it was hers was still probably that she'd parked her butt on the hood of the thing as she waited for Marc to get there.

Call it a freebie.

"Diamonds never go out of style or lose their value," Harley agreed, around a forkful of food. Manners, schmanners. "Actual diamonds, I mean. Harlequin diamonds? Eh."

Tiny shrug at the end there.

"What's a harlequin diamond?" Marc asked. He was stuck on the actual gem, so he figured she meant something like how the brown ones were called chocolate.

Also don't mind him as he turned his plate so the fries were in easy reach if Harley wanted to snag some. Clearly he was just keeping the sandwich close because that's what he was eating right now.

Well, that made for a two-fer, for Harley's hand.

First, tapping at the forearm with the red and black diamond pattern - "These ones, yanno? Harlequin diamonds?" - and second, snatching some fries right after.

"Got it. Thought you meant - " Marc made a dismissive gesture with his hand. "Sometimes shit back home has fancy names."

Everyone now take a moment to wonder what a Harlequin Stone would do in the Infinity Gauntlet.

"You think you've lost value though?" he asked. "Or just the tattoo?"

"Oh, us harlequins gotta make our own value since no one else sure as shit is gonna give it to us," Harley replied, with just a little bit of a drawl. "But that does make it tricky, 'cause you can't rely on outside validation comin' in, like a real diamond can."

"Diamonds are only worth what you can get someone to pay for them," Marc pointed out. "They can't pick up and move somewhere else if the problem is they're not being appreciated for what they are."

"Yeah but they're rocks, they don't care."

"And you do," Marc guessed.

It was Marc and not Steven. Guessing was the best he could manage here.

"About my worth? Yeah."

Not that anyone would have been able to tell just a couple of years back.

"You think you're more or less now?" Marc asked.

That actually made Harley stop and think for a second.

"Less in some ways," she said, after said second, earnestly, "more in others. So I dunno what that evens out to?"

"Life, I think," Marc said. He shrugged, acknowledging his limitations. "Fuck if I know. I'm not an expert."

"Well you asked," Harley pointed out, "so I thought ya might be."

Yes, very funny, Harls.

"I fake a lot of stuff real well," Marc said, far too dry for it to come off like he remotely considered that to be true.

"Yeah, no you don't," Harley replied cheerfully, "and you shouldn't try to fake with me anyway."

"Why not you?" Marc asked, curious where she was going with that.

"'Cause I will call you out," Harley replied, like it was just that simple, like duh, "and it'll be embarrassing for you."

And she shoveled more food in her mouth, somehow managing to be smug about that, too.

"You do have a history of that," Marc had to admit. He dipped a fry in some ketchup before eating it. "Good."

"Oh, you've picked up on that?" Harley teased. "Good."

"You're not - what's the word?" Marc said, pretending to think. "Subtle."

Harley snorted.

"Oh, I'm as subtle as a heart attack, sweetie!"

So... No.

"You're more fun anyway," Marc told her. Then he had to add, "Not that I've had a heart attack."

"I hear they're not that great," Harley agreed. "But they do leave a lasting impression!"

Which, hey, was another point of similarity!

That got an understated laugh out of Marc.

"Don't know I'd call you serious as one," he said. He looked at her thoughtfully. "Not unless I pissed you off."

"So don't piss me off!" Harley suggested lightly.

Her plate was almost empty. She snagged a couple more fries to swipe up some of the cheesy residue.
