Harley was having a quiet day in.

... What? It happened! It was allowed! Even the most high energy rogues had to take days off sometimes. There was a marathon of some awful reality show on the TV - oh, also, she had a TV now, a vintage one with a great aesthetic and terrible reception! - and she had a comfy onesie on and a takeout order on the way.

What more could a girl need?

It wasn't like the movement was doing bad things for Marc either, so it was fine all around.

He watched her show of thoughtfulness. "This how you were when you were doing your... doctor, thing?"

He meant earning the degree. He didn't know the details.

Harley's movement stopped, immediately. Her head tilted in a genuine show of confusion.

"What?"

He probably didn't mean it the way her immediate kneejerk instinct took it.

"Proving you'd earned it," Marc explained. "The degree."

It made sense in his head. But that in and of itself meant a high likelihood it didn't make sense to anyone else.

Yeah, not so much!

"... What?" Harley said. Again. "What're you sayin'? About proving myself? For my degree?"

"Isn't that a thing people do?" Marc asked. "Talk about what they studied?"

"Oh," Harley said, now.

And then tilted her head even further to the side, gesturing to both of them. "And what's that got to do with this...?"

"You were acting thoughtful," Marc explained, gesturing up at her. "Like you were presenting a case."

"... Ohhhh."

Yeah, it really did take until that for Harley to fully parse what he'd been saying.

"I thought you were tryin' to imply I'd used sex to get there."

"What?" Marc actually made a face. it was probably a sign of how much of a guy he was that that possibility hadn't even occurred to him. "No. I meant you looked smart."

Well, there'd been plenty of guys insinuating that while she'd been pursuing her doctorate.

"Oh." A beat, and then Harley brightened a little. "Did I?"

"Yeah," Marc said, like that was obvious. "Usually do."

That too as though it were obvious.

Well, that made one of them!

"Huh? I do?"

"Yeah?" Marc replied, not sure where he'd lost her on this one.

It was Harley: sometimes she could get lost going down a completely straight hallway, if the pictures on the walls caught her interest enough.

"I didn't know that."

He'd definitely told her before.

"Maybe I just got a little confused."

"Like I'm gonna judge somebody for confusion?" Marc pointed out. "Practically my only hobby."

Occasionally being confused, he meant. Which he'd kind of stated in a confusing manner, appropriately enough.

"Ya just said judging is your hobby," Harley pointed out, helpfully.

But she also thought it probably made his point, yeah.

"Being confused," Marc clarified. "Happens often enough I might as well enjoy it."

"Yeah, I thought that version would make more sense," Harley replied, because, well. She had! "Anyway, I got confused 'cause I was tryin' to lay out some of my best dirty talk and then suddenly we were on my degree?"

He'd probably figured that part out already, Harls.

"You being smart is hot," Marc said, in a way that indicated the connection to dirty talk was obvious to him.

Harley's fingertips tapped against his chest, a restless little gesture she wasn't all that aware of.

She wa smiling and faintly frowning at the same time. "Yeah?" she asked. "And my dirty talk sounds smart to ya? That's really a new one."

"Huh," Marc replied. He had something of an editorial comment on that but in a rare moment of potential wisdom he kept it to himself so the conversation didn't get more off track than it already was. Instead he went with, "Good you're into strange I guess?"

Off track? Them? Never!

"I am very into strange," Harley confirmed readily. "Especially 'cause sometimes strange is into me."

"Sometimes literal," Marc said.

What? She wasn't the only one who could make those kinds of comments sometimes.

She was not, and it was always a delight to be reminded! As was evident from Harley's laugh.

"Exactly," she said, smirking. And rocked against him just a bit, as if she'd just remembered what they'd actually been doing. (Only because she kind of had just remembered. Shut up.) "Sometimes strange likes to get all up in me."

Marc rocked up into her as his poor pants again had to suffer. "Strange and nuts."
