Midnight Manor Laundry Room; Sunday Morning

Boy, had that gone poorly! Harley hadn't slept much, and some of the reasons why could maybe be inferred by how, come morning, her makeup looked like perhaps she'd been caught in a heavy bout of rain. Rain that also made your eyes look kinda red and puffy? It was Fandom, okay, genuinely much stranger things happened all the time! Leave her alone!

Also, thanks to the aforementioned lack of sleep, Harley wasn't actually feeling all that much better, come morning. She actually kind of felt like she needed to bite something.

Or maybe go egg the Wayne Foundation building in town.

Set something on fire?

... Or kick a dryer, apparently. Sorry about the occasional clanging noises (and the accompanying swearing), Midnightites! Midnighters? Midnightees...? People of Midnight. Sometimes you just had to laundry aggressively.

It was so much better than actually dealing with your feelings.

Harley made an affronted noise. "Hey! New Jersey's fine!"

"Course it is," Marc said. Indulgently.

"Hey, I lived there since college all the way until I came here," Harley pointed out, raising her eyebrows at him. "You've got a lot to thank New Jersey for!"

And probably many reasons to hate it too, along that same logic, but whatever.

"You did leave," Marc pointed out.

"And that's what you should be most grateful for of all!"

Yes, Harley looked pretty pleased with herself for that one.

"All right already," Marc said, with an obligatory eyeroll that he clearly didn't mean. "I'm glad you're here instead of Jersey. There ya go."

"Thank you!" Harley replied, smugly, but it wasn't all bad: she also pressed a kiss on his cheek.

Marc let her. But then turned to give her a kiss on the mouth. Nothing intense. Checking in, in a way.

And in turn, Harley let him. Happily!

She'd relaxed a whole bunch since he'd first shown up. Was completely capable of enjoying herself when it came to an easy kiss.

"Taste like pancakes," he told her. In case she wondered.

Harley chuckled. "Well ya taste like eggs, so... I win."

"Does mean you're sweet," Marc pointed out.

"And you're what, eggy?" No time to get caught up in who was sweet or not when there were real questions to ask! Harley tsked. "Tough break for you."

"Salty?" Marc suggested. There'd been salt on the eggs after all. Pepper too but whatever, he wasn't a chef.

Harley snickered again. "Oh, I think salty suits ya."

"I'll take it," Marc said.

Since he wasn't sweet after all.

No, he wasn't aware of any other meanings of salty.

And Harley wasn't going to be explaining it to him right now, because that made the joke funnier to her and it wasn't really that important.

"Good," she said. "See, that's how we make such a good combo."

"Too bad no lemons," Marc said. "I'd do good with sour."

Sweet and sour, you see.

Harley's laugh was louder than expected, maybe, but that just meant it was all the more genuine.

"Well maybe we can fix that with lunch somehow," she teased. "Get ya a very sour lemonade or something!"

"We're spending lunch together now?" Marc asked. He didn't sound like he minded.

"Unless ya got other plans?"

He hadn't sounded like he did, just now, so Harley felt secure in using the teasing tone that she did.

"Somewhere important to be and other people to meet."

"There was this person in my laundry room," Marc said. "But I think I've got her in hand."

He was doing pretty well on the "humor" thing today.

It made Harley's lips curve further, so it was going great. She gave his hand a little squeeze, because clearly he'd earned it.

"Yeah, I think ya got that contained."

Marc would be taking that smile as a reward, yes.

"Might need to go chair shopping," Marc said. "But I guess I can do that some other time."

Harley grinned at him, tugging on his hand for no good reason. "And if stars align, you might even be able to take an expert along with ya!"
