Somewhere on the Mainland; Tuesday Evening

It had already been feeling like kind of a great day to get the hell off the island. And when Harley happened to run into Marc ("happened to run into", "one of them had had gone looking for the other", po-tay-to, po-tah-to)? That just made it into a great day to get the hell off the island and drag him with her! And since it turned out there was roller derby out on the mainland? That had settled where to drag him to.

Right now, that dragging was literal -- wait, well, no. It was physical? Point was, they'd left the car a few blocks away, and Harley was pulling Marc along by the hand towards what she was pretty sure was the correct building - yanno, even before she saw the people filing in through the main entrance, sporting various unnatural hair colors with a general alternative sense of style about them.

It made her squeal with excitement. "Oooooo you can practically smell the sweat and broken noses already!"

Marc had been in the body and in need of a distraction for more than one reason, so yeah he'd kind of headed in the direction of Harley's shop, what of it? Same as her heading in his direction. It was a small island. These things happened.

Likewise he hadn't had a problem with her dragging him, literally and physically, to what she'd found.

"They got booze at these things?" Marc asked.

"They've usually got beer, at least?" Harley offered, over her shoulder. "But you're makin' me regret not bringing a flask."

"I did," Marc said.

No, he hadn't known for sure he'd run into Harley or that having done so they'd go out. He'd brought one anyway. It was fine.

Harley wasn't even going to wonder about that. "Oh, good!" she replied, brightening even further. "See, then we got nothing to worry about! Go team!"

"So are you... doing it?" Marc asked. He hadn't gotten into details much on the way over.

"Doing what?" Harley asked, as she dragged them into what passed for a line into the building. "Drinking? Probably! 'Less ya don't wanna share."

"No, the thing," Marc said, indicating the building. "Derby."

"Oh!" Harley said. And then shook her head. "Nah, nope." And then she immediately followed that with a thoughtful tilt of her head. "I mean, not unless someone gets horribly injured and they need someone to jump in and save the day..."

"Got it," Marc said. "So you can tell me how it works."

There'd been more than ample time for Marc to have googled this to get an idea. One might even point out that Watts knew how to google things so there was really no excuse. And yet Marc had not. Laziness? Wanting to hear it from Harley? Other? Good questions.

"Oh, yeah, I'll get to that when we get to it," Harley promised, like there was ay guarantee any explanation she gave was going to be easy to follow, regardless of whethee he could see the thing or not. "But it's real simple. And fun!"

Also, did she need to still be hanging onto his hand? Probably not! Wasn't stopping her!

For similar reasons - or lack therein - he wasn't taking his hand back either.

"Lotta violence," Marc said, since he'd picked up on that much. "That I can understand."

"And going real fast!"

That part was clearly important too!

"Yeah, I picked up you liking that," Marc said. Did he pull her closer while holding her hand? Maybe someone wanted to pass by them, who knew? "In general."

"Oh yeah?" Harley teased, using the pulling to her advantage by leaning her shoulder into his. Just being nice to the people around them! "How'd ya figure that?"

"The way you take traffic laws as suggestions," Marc replied with a smirk.

Of course so did he sometimes. If the situation called for it.

"Oh, then you like goin' fast too," Harley replied with a grin, because she'd absolutely seen some of those situations. "Gets the blood pumping, don't it?"

"Gets me where I need to go?" Marc replied. He wasn't trying to be difficult, it really was more about efficiency for him than anything. Someone else's enjoyment could be a factor though. "Right skills for the job, really."

"Pfft," Harley huffed, waving a hand. "So practical. That's boring."

"I've got you if I need interesting," Marc replied, quirking his eyebrows up at her.

Harley preened. "And I've got other ways to get your blood pumping," she agreed.

Complete with a lean even closer to him.

Marc maybe put his arm around her. Again just to keep from taking up too much room for anybody passing by. So polite.

"You manage," he replied. He looked a little thoughtful after he said that.

Which Harley caught, of course, since her focus was so zeroed in on him.

Her head tilted curiously. "What's with the face? So thinky."

'So' was relative, but she'd spent a lot of time looking at his face.

"You're colorful," Marc said. This was actually an answer, even if it sounded like a non-sequitur.

"... Okay?" Harley said. Clearly not following the logic. "And that gets ya going?"

"I could use some colorful," Marc said.

It connected for him. Whether the logic was there for other people was a matter of debate.
