Apartment Above Needful Things; Tuesday Late Morning

Harley had spent most of the weekend on the mainland. Not just Baltimore, either - she'd taken the kid out on a little road trip. Yanno, for life lessons! Most of them criminal, of course, but that was sort of how their mentorship worked, so someone else could handle the boring stuff. Anyway, they'd had fun!

So much of it, in fact, that Harley had only landed back on the island late on Monday evening. Technically probably Tuesday? Which meant that after she'd passed out and slept her fill, the day was already well on its way. She rolled groggily out of bed, shambled her way into the living room --

And groaned when she saw the glitter bomb still waiting on the coffee table, and not downstairs attached to the front door ready to explode on Frenchie if he showed up again this week. Whether he'd already shown up or not, Harley was not in a state to go set it up now.

She shuffled around some more, in search of her phone, which she found discarded on the kitchen counter. No calls, no messages apart from Cass informing her she'd ordered breakfast delivery on Harley's account. Harley looked at the phone for a long moment more anyway, tapping her thumb against the side of it in thought. Groggy, still sleepy, not yet caffeinated thought.

And pulled up a number she'd had for a while but never actually texted before.

(Successfully, anyway. There was that time on her birthday.)

Harley hadn't, but not oit of any disinterest for it.

As may have been evident from the way her head pulled up again so she could see him. "Oh, we should," she said, looking like she ought to have been clutching her hands to her chest had they not already been occupied elsewhere. "I'll still be mostly shit at it but I don't care!"

"I don't care either," Marc told her. "You weren't that bad. You caught on pretty quick."

"You wanna dance with me even though you'll be riskin' your toes for a bit?"

Because odds were she'd forgotten most of it.

Marc kissed her behind her ear. "I'll take my chances."

"Awww."

Yes, she did actually say that out loud. Shut up.

Marc could point out that she'd said that. Instead he went with, "Food in general's nice too. Not just breakfast."

"We're pretty good at dinner," Harley agreed, teasing the hair at the back of his neck with her fingertips. "Lunch, too, sometimes."

"Only sometimes?" Marc asked, since two could play that game.

"Well we have dinner together more often, right?" Harley replied easily. "And lunch only sometimes. We'd be just as good at it --" What qualified 'being good at a meal', anyway? Irrelevant! "-- but we only have it sometimes, so..."

"I see," Marc said. He traced random patterns along her back. "Wasn't aware it was all scientific."

"Well you are talkin' to a scientist..."

Sort of.

"That's true," Marc said. He kissed her behind her ear again. "My bad. Smart and hot."

"I'll forgive ya," Harley cooed, "as long as you're nice to me."

Trick statement, he was already being plenty nice to her. And nothing about her suggested otherwise, either, from the continued lean against him to the lazy, idle movements of her fingers in and against his hair.

"I'll get you breakfast some other day too," Marc said. "How's that?"

He didn't sound like that was the only thing on offer.

And of course Harley was going to latch onto that tone she thought she spied there.

"Go on?"

"Maybe lunch sometime too," Marc said.

His own attempt at a callback.

"Oh, ooh, look who's gettin' all wild on me now!" Harley teased with a snicker. "What was it ya said earlier? Promises, promises."

"Maybe a dessert too," Marc said, as though he was only pondering this. "We'll see."

"Good thing you're holdin' me because I might swoon and faint with all this 'we'll see'."

Incorrigible.

But also sneaking a brief press of a kiss against the side of his neck.

"You got the table helping too," Marc said. Because he was going to be a pain in the ass just to see her reaction.

Well, apparently Harley was feeling just feisty enough to straighten up - as much as she was able to - and pull her hands away from him, and let her legs go slack around him so that they were just hanging over the edge of the table more than anything.

"Lookit that, seems like I do!"

"Guess I'm finally having breakfast then," Marc said. He went to reach past her for the long neglected bag. Of course he had to brush against her to do so.

"Uh huh," Harley replied brightly. "Guess you are."

Totally not leaning into that brushing at all.

"You're kinda in the way here," Marc pointed out.

Of course he wasn't moving to the side, which would fix that problem instantly.

"That sounds like a you problem, sweetie," Harley replied, oh so sweet and helpful.
